Our Dancing Machine

Jamie and I go back and forth over who Ewan looks like, but one thing is for sure, he has my fabulous dance moves!

Ewan loves music: playing it, hearing it and dancing to it. He has some pretty awesome moves. My personal favorite is the booty dance with one or two hands behind the hips.

Here are two videos we have managed to capture of Ewan’s amazing grooves. Prepare to be amazed…

Getting down to the crazy dancing chicken. In this one, you can see my favorite of his moves although when he goes for the two-handed booty dance, he loses his balance! I was laughing so hard, I was crying.

Jamie’s family put on Boney M’s “Rasputin” to honor recently deceased Bobby Farrell. Ewan was totally down with it and did an awesome knee bounce. I love how he first looks at them dancing and then gets into it Smile.

Happy Birthday Ewan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, has it really been a year since this day?

I cannot believe it. In some ways it went way too fast and in some ways it feels like Ewan has always been here and has always been a part of our lives.

Now that I am a parent, people sometimes ask for advice or words of wisdom. I have some advice on certain subjects, but as far as general advice to expectant parents the only thing I can really say to them after my year with Ewan is this: nothing I (or anyone else) can say or do will ever prepare you for how much you will love and adore your child. It is indescribable...more amazing and intense than anything you have imagined.
Of course, it is also tough and tiring, but the joy outweighs all of that especially with support from each other and family which Jamie and I are lucky to have.

Ewan’s teachers tell me all the time how happy he is all day and how amazing it is that he is already so sweet and empathetic. When a friend is sad, he comes over to pat them and put his head on them. Here he is doing that for his friend Landon when he was sad…

As Ewan celebrated his first birthday on Saturday, I bent down next to him to sing “Happy Birthday” and hold his cake for him. He was clapping his hands and smiling. I looked over at Jamie and I think I saw some tears in his eyes. I remember thinking then what a lucky woman I was to have such a loving, happy, amazing family.

If the first year is any indication, I think Ewan will have a great lifeSmile

Here are the photos from the last month.

My parents got Ewan a walker that he loves. Here is Ewan enjoying that with his Uncle Stuart. Don’t worry, this one is very short!

Ewan’s First Birthday Party

Ewan celebrated his first birthday this weekend. We threw him a Beatles birthday at Aldo’s (the restaurant owned by Lilly’s parents, aka Vovó and Vovô). It was a smallish affair since space was limited, but it was great to be surrounded by close family and friends and Beatles paraphernalia. I might have gone a little overboard with the Beatles theme, but nothing is too much for my beautiful (big) boy!

Stay tuned for the sentimental, mushy post for Ewan’s actual birthday on Thursday. Until then…

Here are the photos from the party (the ones we have so far).

And of course the obligatory cake video. It is over 5 minutes in length which can seem long when you’re just waiting for something to happen. Here are some key moments if you want to skip ahead:

0:54- we start singing “happy birthday.”

2:31- I remember to put on “Birthday” by The Beatles and Ewan rocks out.

4:18- Ewan finally gets a big piece of cake in and is so proud of himself!
